Advertising Film

Task 1:  Camera terminologies and reflection

Cinematography is important in the film as the camera shot is what captures the amount of space shown in each shot or frame.

Characters, themes, and film settings can all be displayed in different aspects according to the camera shots used.  Therefore they are used to direct the viewer's attention accordingly to support or reinforce the narrative in the story.

Task 2:  Talking heads advert practice

Task 3: Reflective journal

For my advert, the six-shot sizes I chose were High angle, Low angle, long shot, mid shot, and extreme long shot.

The reason I chose to do a high angle was to give the viewer the position to look down at the bottle in order to make the bottle appear small.

The reason I chose a low angle was to give the viewer an opposite view to the high angle in order to make the bottle look bigger.

I used longshot to capture the landscape in order to give the viewer an idea of the setting.

I used mid-shot to capture the character from the waist up.  This is for the viewer to see the face and actions more clearly.

I was happy with the final outcome as I believe the order of the scenes and the transitions helped to make my idea come across to the viewer and persuade the audience to buy the product.

I think I could improve my camera operating skills, I would like to practice in order to strengthen my skills.

I enjoyed the editing stage more than the filming as I am more experienced with using editing software such as Adobe Premiere pro.

Task 4:  Persuasive Devices and Modes

Persuasive devices

The chosen brand is Nike and what would be the most appealing to the audience when they see the ad is the slogan "JUST DO IT" as it is known by everyone and it is the first thing that people see and stands out the most from the rest of the ad.

Persuasive modes

Pathos, Logos, and Ethos

Pathos: an appeal to emotions

Logos: appealing to get people to use their logic and reason as to why they want to buy the product.

Ethos: an appeal to get many people to respect you and get many followers.

Task 5:  Analysis of TV advertisement

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8PUpLsGSN8

This ad was produced on 19th April 2021

This advertisement has a structure of a realistic narrative as it is stating out the facts about what the shoes do for you when you wear them.

This ad includes a bandwagon as it is recommending people to use the product as it is very popular and includes plain folks which mean it uses anyone to advertise it so that it is available to buy and isn't expensive.

This ad contains positive connotations as it includes a variety of sales and clothing so whatever you want to buy shoes or other clothing it is all there and it will attract more people to buy it because it has sales and also because it has different types of things other than shoes.

Task 6:  Yougov Research writeup and Moodboard

YouGov is a website where it contains statistics on well-known topics which have many categories to research.

Nike is the top third most popular brand in fashion and clothing in 2022.

Its fame is 97%, its popularity by 69%, Disliked by 10% and the people who found it alright are 19%.

The popularity of this brand among millennials is 68%, Gen X is 82% and Baby boomers is 61%.

Task 7:  Vox Pops

Task 8:  Script Writing Practice

Task 9:  Storyboard practice

Task 10:  Week Five Reflection

I started practicing with scriptwriting and storyboarding also the concept of them as well as what they include for example in scriptwriting the text has to be the same font style and size, also before starting a scene the location is the first thing that is written on the corner of the script and below that the actions of the characters are written and below that in the middle of the page the name of the character, even emotions and they're speech is written.  For Storyboarding

Task 11:  Advert Synopsis Mindmap

Synopsis 1: Boy 1 plays a football match on the field wearing his old worn-out trainers and as he is playing he trips and falls, gets frustrated, and comes out of the match.  As he takes off the trainers, he chucks the trainers furiously onto the field, he then arrives home and sees an ad for a new and better model of the branded trainers.  He wakes up in the morning and goes to the shops, he sees the shoes that were in the ads and he goes in the shop, tries them on and moments later a football match on the field starts and the new trainers can not only avoid him to fall but makes him run faster and score a goal for the team.

Synopsis 2:  Boy 2 is doing an intense exercise and as he did this exercise he experiences

Task 13: Advert Storyboard

Task 14: Call Sheet

Task 15:  Rough cut and Reflective Journal

                            Nike Trainers Advert

Task 16:  SWOT analysis

Task 17:   Final Cut

Task 18:  Final Evaluation

Throughout the duration of this filming and advert project, I have studied many topics, such as Camera Terminologies, Talking Heads, persuasive devices, analysis of tv advertisements, vox pops, scriptwriting practice, Yougove research writeups, mood board, storyboard practice, advert synopsis, and call sheet.

The part I enjoyed the most was the editing of the rough cut advert because I got to practice my editing techniques and try out something new which was how to change the color of the background.

The success of shooting the advert wasn't that difficult as I had a small crew set up the whole thing and the props that I brought with me were easy to get and I kept it simple.

I shot the advert according to the call sheet and I actually shot the advert earlier than the time I wanted to shoot which gave me extra time and it went really well.

My planning was put together very well everything went according to plan, the location that I wanted to shoot, where I wanted to place the props when I wanted to change the scene, and the duration I wanted each scene.

The shot I liked the most in my advert was the last shot which showed the trainers zoomed in it was also filmed while turning the camera around the trainers and those techniques in the shot would look appealing and interesting to the audience.
